Description

Textiles as Living Archives: Indigo, Ajrakh and Journeys of Cultural Memory

The Sanskriti Lecture Series presents an engaging lecture by Shelly Jyoti, Visual/Textile Artist, Researcher, Writer and Independent Curator, exploring textiles as living repositories of cultural memory, tradition and identity.

Shelly Jyoti is a New Delhi–based contemporary textile artist, researcher, writer and independent curator. For nearly two decades, her practice has explored indigo as colour, material, history and cultural memory. Khadi forms the consistent material foundation of her work.

Working exclusively with hand-spun, handwoven khadi, she brings together natural indigo dyeing, Ajrakh resist block printing, embroidery, mirror work and symbolic imagery to examine histories of colonialism, migration, displacement, collective identity and regeneration through a Gandhian lens. Her work has been exhibited at leading institutions in India and internationally.

The Conservation Division, IGNCA in collaboration with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture invites you to join us for an evening of conversations around textiles, memory and cultural heritage.
